If you want to customize your operating system, you should not forget to apply new icons on your files and folders. Icons can be found almost anywhere, but in certain cases it may be difficult to acquire them. If you want better control over icons, GConvert can help you. It allows you to extract icons, edit or convert them, create new ones and more. Additionally, you can add icons to a library, which can be saved as a file.

The software comes in a small package and you can set it up on your computer without any effort. You may choose between an instant installation or an advanced one. Even if you opt for the advanced installation, you will not have to make any complex configurations.

You can perform numerous tasks from the application's interface. If you load a file in ICO format, EXE, DLL or others, its icons will be displayed on the left side of the window and you will be able to view them as images, in different sizes, on the right side, where you can also find basic information about the selected icon. The application comes with a built-in image viewer, which can display icons on a separate window, along with a few options, which you can use to export the icon in various formats.

Icons can be saved the traditional way, with a standard Save dialog, but it is also possible to copy them to the clipboard. If you view an icon on a separate window, you may click and drag the icon to a third party application, like an image or a text editor. Besides loading a file, you can also browse for icons on an explorer-like window. If there are any icons to be found in a selected folder, the application will display them immediately and you can double click it in order to load it on the main interface.

It is also possible to create new icons, by converting pictures. You can use an entire image or part of it. Furthermore, you may set a default size for your new icon, choose a resizing method, a pixel format and make other adjustments. This procedure can be executed in batch mode as well. After selecting a series of pictures, you can decide to save the icons in a folder or store them in a library.

Pros

The application makes it possible to manage icons in a library, edit and convert them, create new ones and much more. You can extract icons from various files types and send them to image editors or other third party applications, with simple click and drag actions. The software allows you to convert images to icons one by one or perform a batch conversion.

Cons

While batch converting images to icons, you can't stop or pause the process. If you want to build and manage your own icons collection, you can find everything you need on GConvert's user friendly interface.
